DJJ in the Community: Community Brotherhood Breakfast

Recently, DJJ Commissioner Avery D. Niles served as the guest speaker for the Community Brotherhood Breakfast in May. The breakfast is held the first Sunday of each month at the Homer Methodist Church in Homer, GA. Commissioner Niles shared his beliefs and values with the members of the church and discussed the work that DJJ does for Georgia’s youth. He emphasized DJJ’s commitment to providing the youths in its care with multiple education and vocational training opportunities to improve the quality of their lives once they rejoin their local communities.

Commissioner Niles challenged the attendees to serve as mentors to DJJ’s community youths. “We must have participation from the community. We cannot do the work we do without your involvement,” he said. “I want the youths in our care to return to your community, changed and ready to become productive citizens.” He concluded his speech by telling the audience that all youth are able and willing to be helped: “Each one – reach one, teach one and keep one.”

The Homer Community Brotherhood provides opportunities for fellowship and is open to all denominations. The members are dedicated to serving their communities and providing assistance to those in need.
