Rescue 2 Restore Pride: Elbert Shaw JCO Tyson Beaty

For his exceptional work with and dedication to the Rescue 2 Restore program at the Elbert Shaw Regional Youth Detention Center in Dalton,  Juvenile Correctional Officer (JCO) Tyson Beaty was presented with an Office of Victim and Volunteer Services Challenge Coin. 

This spring, Officer Beaty went above and beyond for the youth and the dogs in the program during the most recent curriculum classes. Officer Beaty would even help during his off time to make sure all went well with the care of the dogs and the cleaning of the kennels. 

Officer Beaty is conscientious and positive mentor to youth involved in the Rescue 2 Restore program, modeling exceptionally the standard of care expected to be given to dogs in Department of Juvenile Justice facilities.  

The Rescue 2 Restore program could not exist or be successful without the cooperation of facility staff. Rescue 2 Restore staff respect and appreciate the participation and support of the program by Department of Juvenile Justice leadership and employees around the state of Georgia.

The Rescue 2 Restore (R2R) program is designed to harness the restorative power of the human-animal bond by utilizing structured rescue dog training programs, humane education sessions, and therapy dog interactions within the Georgia Juvenile Justice system.

Rescue 2 Restore program goals include allowing youth a natural development of and opportunity to practice life skills such as responsibility, positive and patient interactions, educational successes and community service. 

Rescue 2 Restore program outcomes are set to decrease behavioral issues within secure facilities, increase skills that will allow for entry-level employment upon release, and to allow for empowerment and connection with community through service learning projects.
