Gainesville RYDC: Job Readiness Fair

One of the main takeaways of Georgia's juvenile justice reform over the last decade is the importance of keeping DJJ youth close to their local communities and reintegrating youth back into individual schools and programs. By providing a localized bubble of familiar people and friends, youth can socialize and work with others in a safe environment which allows for a comfort level which helps them thrive both in the present and beyond.

Local businesses and educational groups innately understand that the workforce of the future involves investing in the community youth of today. A vibrant society involves a highly trained and employable workforce. By helping youth learn about the skills needed to prosper in the workplace, businesses help themselves create both their workers as well as the consumers of their products.

For the youth of the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center (Gainesville RYDC), the commitment to improve lives through education and local business activism shined through strongly recently during its Job Readiness Fair held at the facility. During the fair, Gainesville RYDC were provided with instruction on a wide variety of job readiness skills including those involving interview preparation and proper wardrobe selection from several prominent Hall County area businesses and schools.  The attending youth also received information and knowledge from subject matter experts in a wide range of career fields.

The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice would like to specifically thank Lanier Technical College for their assistance and support in organizing the Job Readiness Fair with the employees and volunteer coordination staff of the Gainesville facility.
