Augusta YDC Visits the High Museum
Students from the Augusta Youth Development Campus (YDC) participated in a field trip to the High Museum of Art on January 23. Through a docent-led tour, the DJJ youth were introduced to a wide array of art mediums including impressionism, folk art, sculpture and 14th-century Italian art.
After the tour, students participated in an educational workshop to learn about printmaking techniques. The youth were then given the opportunity to exercise their artistic talents and create their own printed works of art. High Museum Education Director Virginia Shearer visited with the students and thanked them for visiting the museum.
Through the generosity of the High Museum’s Art Access Program, DJJ’s Office of Volunteer Services can coordinate to send students to the museum at no cost. The High’s Art Access Program removes economic barriers to allow students from Title I schools to experience the museum’s programs.
DJJ looks forward to continuing its relationship with the High Museum and the opportunity for the youth in its care to gain greater cultural insights through educational field trips to the museum.
