Congratulations to Adam Barnett -- Selected Central Office Employee of the Month for January 2017!

The Central Office Nominations Committee is pleased to announce that Adam Barnett, Statewide PREA Coordinator, has been selected as Central Office Employee of the Month for January 2017.

Adam has done an outstanding job over the past 4 years in developing and implementing the federal PREA standards where it applies within DJJ. To this end, our agency has meet 100% federal compliance for all DJJ facilities within the required three-year time frame. Adam was instrumental in ensuring our success as an agency. He not only has been the subject matter expert for our agency regarding PREA but has become nationally recognized as a PREA expert having received requests for assistance from other States in both the juvenile and the adult corrections arenas.

Adam has tackled the more sensitive areas of PREA that include LGBTI policy, cross gendered supervision, and victim services with tenacity, dedication, and good judgment. He has worked tirelessly with the Policy Coordinator, Training Unit, Community Services, Secure Facilities, OTIS, and Engineering to ensure complete understanding and proper implementation of the federal standards. He has also worked with national experts in obtaining the most current and most valuable information that puts the GA DJJ at the forefront of the PREA arena. Additionally, his detailed and accurate records greatly aid in the management of multiple federal grants dedicated to PREA.

Adam is a Department of Justice certified PREA auditor for both juvenile and adult facilities; he is a certified ACA auditor; he is a member of a statewide multi-agency sexual assault response task force; and finds time to actively volunteer with his fraternity in his serving at-risk youth.

With all of the above being said, Adam is well-versed in all DJJ policy and “knows” safety and security as well as the importance of programming. He is ultimately concerned about our youth and our staff, and lives by “PREA is good safety and security”. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Barnett on a job well done.

Respectfully,
The 2017 Nominations Committee

NOMINATION PROCESS
DJJ’s Employee of the Month Recognition Program
– How Nominees Are Selected

Beginning January 2015, the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice kicks-off its first “Employee of the Month” program for Central Office employees. Names of nominees are selected by the DJJ Executive Team from members of their units or divisions and submitted to be recognized as the Central Office Employee of the Month. Included with the nomination is a one page write-up detailing why the staff member should be given consideration to be selected Employee of the Month.

Then each month, the Nomination Committee makes their selection for the employee to receive public appreciation the following month. The written nomination is reviewed and signed by Commissioner Avery D. Niles and posted for public recognition on the DJJ “News & Views” website. Each nominee selected by the committee will be recognized at a monthly DJJ Board Meeting and entitled to use the Employee of the Month parking space reserved at Central Office.

The DJJ Central Office Employee of the Month award is intended to recognize and support those stand-out DJJ team members who bring additional motivation, determination and vigor to the workplace through their personal ethics, advocacy, positive attitudes and innovative solutions to impact the professional challenges faced by their dedicated colleagues and the troubled youth they serve.
