DJJ Thank You: District Ten Hurricane Michael Storm Relief

Story support and photos from District Ten Director Steven Mancuso

As the third-most intense Atlantic Ocean storm ever, Hurricane Michael caused power outages, billions of dollars in agriculture crop damage, and widespread devastation to most of Southwest Georgia.

Department of Juvenile Justice staff was not spared from the fury of Hurricane Michael.  Nearly half of the District Ten Community Services staff loss electricity, and the other half were without electric power and water for a week or more.

Despite their circumstance, the DJJ family persevered and came together to assist their co-workers. In response to the needs presented by the storm, District Ten staff from offices that were least affected organized a drop-off of needed supplies at Community Services Offices (CSO) in Early, Decauter and Dougherty counties of water, gasoline, non-perishable food, and personal hygiene items delivered five days after Hurricane Michael struck.

Staff from CSOs, in the counties of Lowndes, Lanier, Colquitt, as well as Case Expeditor Jarrett Harrison and District Director Steven Mancuso, were all involved in the donation and delivery of these much-needed survival items. Additional deliveries were made with donations from the Southwest Region, District Eight, District Six, and other CSOs throughout the state within a month of the storm hit.

The Department of Juvenile Justice would like to thank and commend all of the individuals who stepped up to help their co-workers and community during Hurricane Michael.  One Team. One Mission. One Family.
