Spotlight on DJJ: Office of Legal Services
As part of Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Avery D. Niles' emphasis on providing the greatest possible customer service to everyone who interacts with DJJ, the Office Legal Services (OLS) is proud to highlight the individual staff members and lawyers who work hard every day to serve the public, our fellow employees and the youth entrusted to our care. Today's spotlight focuses on Ashley Powell, Policy Coordinator for the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Meet Ashley Powell, Office of Legal Services Policy Coordinator
Ashley Powell joined the Department of Juvenile Justice in December 2017 as the Policy Coordinator working within the Office of Legal Services. As an undergraduate, Ms. Powell earned her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Social Sciences with concentrations in Criminology and Sociology from the University of South Florida. She received her J.D. from the Stetson University of Law and is licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia.
Before joining DJJ, Ms. Powell represented clients before federal administrative law judges in 12 states where she practiced Social Security disability law. Ms. Powell previously worked for LexisNexis, clerked for Ronald R. Wolfe & Associates and interned with the Stetson Veterans Advocacy Clinic and the Florida Office of the Attorney General.
Ms. Powell resides in Snellville and has three sons, Rashad, Aiden and Arian. She enjoys spending time with her kids, listening to music, reading and watching television.
