DJJ INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITITES:

Community Corrections

Our Juvenile Probation and Parole Specialists 2(JPPS 2) have a wide range of responsibilities supervising juvenile offenders who have been adjudicated by the courts.  In addition to providing supervision, the JPPS 2 also provides supportive counseling, case management, and general treatment services to youth in a field services setting.  A career as a JPPS 2 is an excellent opportunity to provide supervision, care, guidance and direction to delinquent youth that can have a lasting impact on their life.

Counseling, Social Services, Medical Services

Our Social Services Providers, Juvenile Correctional Counselors, Substance Abuse Counselors, Nurses, and Psychologists provide services to juvenile offenders on-site at secure juvenile correctional facilities or community-based service centers.  DJJ professionals conduct psychological assessments; develop treatment plans; provide therapeutic counseling to juvenile offenders and their families; serve as a liaison for the youth to facilitate additional social services; etc.  A career as a Social Services Provider, Juvenile Correctional Counselor, Substance Abuse Counselor, Nurse or Psychologist offers unique opportunities to grow in these fields of human services and also opportunities to professionals to have personal, positive and lasting impact in helping troubled youth and their families.

DJJ INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate or higher degree at an accredited college or university

  • Must be currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in a accredited college or university

  • In good academic standing with their college or university

  • Have no felony convictions

  • Must submit to and pass a Criminal History background check

  • Must desire to work with at risk youth

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A POSITION?

To be considered for an internship with DJJ, students must complete and submit an internship application packet which will include the following documents:

  • Internship Application

  • Applicant Background Self Check List

  • DJJ Loyalty Oath signed in the presence of a notary

  • DJJ Background Authorization signed in the presence of a notary

  • Background clearance is necessary

  • GA Driver’s License History Consent Form

  • Copy of Driver’s License and Social Security Card 

DJJ INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

DJJ partners with many schools, organizations and associations to provide quality and effective services to youth.  DJJ actively sponsors internships as a vital program for college student practicum or training. 

The DJJ Internship Program provides students an opportunity to supplement their classroom training with practical work experience.  An internship is not compensated; however, it facilitates students’ transition into their chosen career fields.

Internships are available throughout the year (fall, winter, spring and summer semesters).  All interns are supervised by a staff member and the student  may receive academic credit for work performed. The duration of the internship must be agreed upon between DJJ, the school and the student.

The internship will strive to:

  • Provide meaningful work experience for the students with connected and structured learning from the classroom to the world of juvenile justice.

  • Guide the student’s educational development through mentoring by experienced DJJ professionals.

  • Strengthen collaborative relationships between institutions of higher education and DJJ.

  • To treat interns as valuable members of DJJ.

  • To create a pool of experienced candidates for permanent career opportunities with DJJ.
