Office of Classification and Transportation Services

The Office of Classification and Transportation Services (OCATS) is responsible for ensuring that youth are properly screened for placement, classified according to their risk and needs, and transported safely and securely. OCATS operates statewide in two main areas: Assessment/Classification and Transportation.

The Transportation Unit consists of officers who ensure the safety and security of staff, youth, and the general public by transporting youth humanely and safely throughout the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) secure facility system, including Regional Youth Detention Centers (RYDCs) and Youth Development Centers (YDCs). They also handle the secure transport of youth to special DJJ events, such as graduations or meetings of the Commissioner’s Youth Council.

Additionally, transportation officers provide airport surveillance for various states through the Interstate Compact Office. By accurately classifying and reviewing youth, the transportation officers are able to ensure safe and secure transportation.
