Why Parents Are Important

Parents and guardians play a crucial role in the development and rehabilitation of young people. It is essential for them to be involved in their child's future to promote success. Studies show that a youth's primary influence comes from a stable family or home environment. However, some families face challenges that hinder their effectiveness, such as physical or emotional abuse, neglect, substance abuse, or a lack of parental interest in the child's life.

Additionally, a youth's behavior can be influenced by their environment. For example, if a neighborhood is filled with negative influences and delinquency, peer pressure can weaken a youth's determination to resist violence and crime. While relocating may not be an option, parents and guardians should consider seeking support from available resources.
