(Decatur, GA) – The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) held a graduation ceremony for twelve new community services officers and six new probation officers on Friday, December 12, at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, Georgia.

“Our probation officers and community services specialists oversee DJJ youth in the field by providing essential case management and counseling,” said DJJ Commissioner Shawanda Reynolds-Cobb. “I am incredibly grateful for the commitment and dedication of each of these graduates in serving our justice-involved youth.”

The Basic Community Services Training (BCST) is a 200-hour course that equips new Juvenile Probation Parole Specialists with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties in support of the DJJ mission. The Basic Juvenile Probation Officer Training (BJPOT) is a 280-hour program designed to meet the requirements established by DJJ and the Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) Council.

The graduating classes include staff from various locations such as Sandersville, Rome, Cordele, Macon, Americus, Ocilla, Savannah, Eastman, Hinesville, and Milledgeville. Community Support Specialist Jessie Mincey was recognized as the “Honor Graduate” for BJCST Class 043, while Probation Officer Xzayvious Lewis served as the “Class Leader” for BJPOT Class 029.
