DJJ Careers: POST Certification

Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST)

 

All applications for positions requiring POST certification must meet the following standards:

(a) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

(b) Be a citizen of the United States.

(c) Have, from an accredited institution, a high school diploma, GED, or college diploma.

(d) Not have been convicted, by any state or by the federal government, of any crime, the punishment for which could have imprisonment in the federal or state prison institution; nor shall have been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law.

(e) Pass the COMPASS Exam.

(f) Pass a criminal background check, including a fingerprint check.

(g) Possess good moral character as determined by investigation under procedures established by the Council.

(h) Have an oral interview with the hiring authority or a representative to determine such things as applicant’s appearance, background and ability to communicate.

(i) Be found after examination by a licensed physician or surgeon, to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions, which might adversely affect his/her exercising the powers or duties of a peace officer.

(j) If interviewing for a position requiring POST certification, applicants must have the following with them:

  •   Drivers license (valid/current)
  •   Birth Certificate
  •   High School Diploma or State GED
  •   DD214 Long form with discharge status noted or discharge certificate attached to DD214 (short form) - current/former military only
  •   Naturalization papers if not a U.S. Citizen
  •   POST certification certificate or certification number if previously certified through POST

These documents will only be requested if a conditional offer of employment is made at the completion of the interview.
