Evans County Resident Reappointed To Juvenile Justice Board

(Decatur, GA) - The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is pleased to announce the reappointment of John Edwards to the Board of Juvenile Justice by Governor Brian P. Kemp. The Board of Juvenile Justice consists of 15 members, each appointed by the Governor and charged with establishing the agency's general policy. 

"I thank Board Member John Edwards for his commitment to the Department of Juvenile Justice," said DJJ Commissioner Shawanda Reynolds-Cobb. "I look forward to continuing to work alongside him as we foster healthy relationships among families, staff, and communities to create a brighter future for our youth.”

A long-time resident of Evans County, Edwards serves as the Twelfth Congressional District Representative and has been a Board of Juvenile Justice member since 2012.

"I am honored to continue serving on the Board of Juvenile Justice," said Board Member Edwards. "I remain dedicated to emphasizing holistic care for youth and our most important objective to focus on youth, families, and the communities we serve.” 

Edwards started his law enforcement career as a uniformed officer in 1977, he then spent 30 years with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, retiring as a Special Agent in Charge. Since 2014, John has served as Executive Director of the Peace Officer Association of Georgia and CEO of J.B. Edwards and Associates Consultants.

The Board of Juvenile Justice is a combination of professionals, attorneys, law enforcement, public servants, and others interested in improving the juvenile justice system in Georgia. The objective of the Board is to provide leadership in developing programs to rehabilitate juvenile offenders committed to the state's custody successfully and give guidance to the Commissioner.
