CTAE Programs

General Automotive Technology
Location(s): Eastman YDC

This course is designed as the foundational course for the General Automotive Technology pathway. Students in this course will learn the basic skills needed to gain employment as an entry level automotive technician. Students will be exposed to courses in automotive preventative maintenance, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical systems, engine repair, engine performance, automatic transmission, manual transmission and differential & automotive HVAC. The hours completed in this course are aligned with ASE standards and are a base for the entry-level technician.

Barbering
Location(s): Eastman YDC, Macon YDC

This program introduces both fundamental theory and practices of the personal care profession including nail technicians, estheticians, barbers and cosmetologists. Emphasis will be placed on professional practices and safety. Areas addressed in this course include: state rules and regulations, professional image, bacteriology, decontamination and infection control, chemistry fundamentals, safety, Hazardous Duty Standards Act compliance, and anatomy and physiology. Students will experience basic hands-on skills in each area to help them determine the pathway they are most interested in pursuing. By completing courses in the personal care services pathways, students can potentially earn credit toward the hours required by the Georgia State Board of Barbering and/or Cosmetology or hours toward their license as an esthetician or nail technician. Pre-requisite for this course is advisor approval.

Business Management and Administration

Microsoft Office Specialist certifications are optional credentials that can demonstrate competence in Microsoft Office products. A Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) is a professional who has completed a series of certification exams to demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft's Office software suite. Individuals who work in positions where Office programs are used frequently, such as administrative assisting or data entry, benefit from MOS certification.

Cosmetology
Location(s): Macon YDC

Construction
Location(s): Augusta YDC

This program offers an opportunity for students to build on their knowledge and skills developed in Industry Fundamentals and Occupational Safety. It introduces them to four construction craft areas and is also the second step towards gaining a Level One Industry Certification in one of the craft areas. The goal of this course is to introduce students to the history and traditions of the carpentry, masonry, plumbing and electrical craft trades. Students will explore how the various crafts have influenced and been influenced by history. The student will also learn and apply knowledge of the care and safe use of hand and power tools as related to each trade. In addition, students will be introduced to and develop skills to differentiate between blueprints related to each individual craft area.

Culinary Arts
Location(s): Eastman YDC and Macon YDC

Culinary Arts is designed to introduce students to fundamental food preparation terms, concepts and methods in Culinary Arts where laboratory practice will parallel class work. Fundamental techniques, skills and terminology are covered and mastered with an emphasis on basic kitchen and dining room safety, sanitation, equipment maintenance and operation procedures. Course also provides an overview of the professionalism in the culinary industry and career opportunities leading into a career pathway to Culinary Arts.

Horticulture
Location(s): Augusta YDC and Eastman YDC

This program will provide students with skills in areas related to agriscience, biotechnology, turf management, landscaping, food science, forestry, environmental science, agricultural engineering and agribusiness management. Georgia’s strong dependence on agriculture will only continue to expand agriculture-related career opportunities for many years.

Forklift Operator Training and Certification

Location(s): Atlanta YDC 

This 16-hour hands-on Forklift Operator training and certification meets OSHA and the National Safety Council requirements.  Students will learn pre-operational checks, general, operation, forklift driving procedures, loading & moving materials, special safety situations, and driving test.  Upon successful completion, students will be issued a forklift certification card and a certificate of completion.

Gas Metal Arc Welding Certification
Location(s): Atlanta YDC 

The 96-hour Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) training and certification provides the knowledge of theory, safety practices, equipment, and techniques required for successful gas metal arc welding.  Students are prepared to meet the qualification criteria of selected national welding codes and standards, understand the safety and help associated with the welding lab, understand and know the three metal transfers associated with Gas Metal Arc Welding, choose the appropriate wire in GMAW, understand the differences in shielding gases, and make industry standard welds in all positions using the GMAW process.  The American Welding Standards (AWS) qualification test is used in the evaluation of student's progress toward making industrial standard welds.

Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security (LPSCS)
Location(s): Muscogee YDC

LPSCS provides students with career-focused educational opportunities in various LPSCS fields.  It examines the basic concepts of law related to citizens' rights and the responsibilities, and students will receive instruction in critical skill areas including: communicating with diverse groups, conflict resolution, ethics, CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Training, or similar program), basic firefighting, report writing, terrorism, civil and criminal law.  Career planning and employability skills will be emphasized.

C-Tech
Location(s): Atlanta YDC, Milledgeville YDC

Telecommunications Technologies

This introductory system teaches all aspects of connectivity methods in today’s world. Learn the history, theory, and transmission mediums of communications, as well as Smart Home technologies found in homes and businesses.

Network Cabling: Copper-Based Systems

Master the basics of copper cabling, installation, construction, and troubleshooting using our patented workstations. Up-to-date industry standards and real-world workplace simulations are also a large part of the curriculum.

Network Cabling: Fiber Optics-Based Systems

Experience all aspects of fiber optics cabling; students will learn where and when fiber applications are used and how to install this new technology.
