DJJ Participates in College Park’s National Night Out

Staff members from the Office of Volunteer Services, Clayton Community Service Office (CSO) and Fulton High Intensity Team Supervision (HITS) represented the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) at College Park’s National Night Out celebration on August 7th.  Local families flocked College Park City Hall and Auditorium Grounds for an evening of food, fun and the opportunity to connect with the men and women who protect and serve Clayton and Fulton Counties. This year’s event was sponsored by the College Park Police Department.

The National Association of Town Watch established National Night Out in 1984 to strengthen the bonds between law enforcement and public safety agencies with the goal of keeping communities safer through crime prevention awareness. Today, more than 38 million people in 16,000 communities participate in National Night Out events nationwide.

Participants enjoyed a community style cookout complete with live entertainment from DJ Toney and other musical performers. Children of all ages had a blast on the bounce houses and slides, visiting the face painting stations and getting a close-up look at police vehicles and fire trucks. Law enforcement and public safety agencies gave informative safety awareness presentations and live demonstrations throughout the evening.

DJJ staff members spoke about their roles and the agency’s goals and initiatives. “I am very appreciative of our staff for taking the time to represent our agency and helping to make this event a great success for the community,” said Robb Gilstrap, Northwest Regional Administrator. DJJ is proud to continue its participation as a community partner in National Night Out events.
