DJJ Volunteer Spotlight: Boy Scout Venturer Shows Appreciation to Metro RYDC Staff

As part of his service project, Boy Scout Venturer Terrell Orr hosted an appreciation lunch for the staff of the Metro Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). Orr prepared a gourmet hotdog bar, complete with fixings and trimmings for the juvenile correctional officers, cadets, counselors and administrators. He wanted to thank the men and women who serve Georgia’s incarcerated youth.

“The staff at Metro RYDC were very grateful for Terrell taking the time to prepare such a delicious lunch,” said DJJ Chaplain Yolanda Thompson. “Staff were able to enjoy an hour of fellowship and comradery. Over 70 staff members were served. I also want to thank the food service staff who assisted Orr.”

Orr is a member of Boy Scout Troop 2421 at Hoosier Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women. The Venturing program emphasizes adventure, leadership, personal growth and service. Through this service project, he is working to earn the Summit Award, the highest award of the Venturing program. Orr has earned his Associate’s degree in Baking and Pastry Arts. He is currently working towards his Bachelor’s in Food Service Management and doing a culinary internship this summer.

DJJ is thankful for the commitment and dedication of its volunteers.
