2018 National Crime Victims' Rights Week at DJJ

What is National Crime Victims’ Rights Week?

Since 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is celebrated every year in April. The week is dedicated to learning about victimization, the effect victimization has on individuals, families, friends and the community, and to promote laws, policies and programs to help victims of crime. Every year, thousands of communities across the nation honor the dedication of those who established victim rights and renew the commitment to guarantee that all victims have the rights and services they need to recover from crime. Victim Support Services participates in marches, tree-planting ceremonies, and many other activities that are held each year to promote victims’ rights and to honor crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf.

This year’s theme – Expand the Circle: Reach All Victims – emphasizes the importance of inclusion in victim services. This year’s theme addresses:

  •         How the crime victims’ field can better ensure that every crime victim has access to services and support, and

  •         How professionals, organizations and communities can work in tandem to reach all victims.

During the week of April 8-14, please take a moment to show your support for those in our community who have been victims of crime.

Various events are scheduled throughout the state to honor those who have been impacted by crime. If you are interested in learning more about an event in your area, please contact the Office of Victim Services.
